If we consider from the moment Christopher Columbus arrived in America in 1492 is more than 3 centuries, but it was just in the early decades of the 16th century that Spain begins to colonize the Carribean and Central America. The first revolutionary movements related to free the colonies began to rise in the final years of the 18th century but turn into something relevant only in the mid of 19th century. It was not until the Spanish-American War in 1898 that Spanish rule ended in the Americas.
