‘The Negro speaks of Rivers’ is one of the famous poems by Langston Hughes.

<u>Explanation</u>:

'Langston Hughes' wrote 'The Negro speaks of Rivers' when he was travelling on a train to "Mexico". He talks about the blacks and the racial discrimination they had to face. He inspired them to unite and fight against this discrimination through this poem.

He links the culture and heritage of African-American society with the "four great rivers" in Africa, America and Middle East. He links his society as the start of civilization. Also, he mentions that the soul of African Americans is ancient and as deep as these rivers.
