So the perimeter is the measurement of the shape all around. I marked the perimeter in green.

Let's use <em>l</em> for the unknown side.

Since the equation to find the perimeter of a rectangle is
(<em>p </em>= perimeter, <em>l </em>= length, <em>w </em>= width)
<em>p </em>= <em /><em>l </em>+ <em>l </em>+ <em>w + </em>w
Since <em>w</em> = 10, and p = 50..
<em />50 = <em>l </em>+ <em>l </em>+ 10 + 10
Simplify:<em>
</em>50<em> </em>= <em />2<em>l</em><em> </em>+ 20
Now let's solve:
Subtract 20 from each side.
30 = 2<em>l</em>
Divide by 2 on each side.
15 = <em>l</em>

Now that we know the length is 15, we can use this equation to find the area.
(<em>a</em> = area)
<em>a</em> = <em>wl
</em><em />Since w = 10, and l = 15...
<em>a </em>= 10 · 15
Solve:
a = 150

The answer is 150.

Hope this helped! If you have anymore questions or don't understand, please comment on my profile or DM me. :)

Width W = 10, length L = ?
50 = 2L + 2W
2L = 50 - 2*10 => L = 15

area = L*W = 15*10 = 150 sq.ft.

Solve for x.<br> 7(1x - 3) = 4(x + 5)
alexandr1967 [171]

Answer:

x = 41/3

General Formulas and Concepts:

<u>Pre-Algebra</u>

  • Order of Operations: BPEMDAS
  • Equality Properties

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Step 1: Define equation</u>

7(1x - 3) = 4(x + 5)

<u>Step 2: Solve for </u><em><u>x</u></em>

  1. Simplify:                                        7(x - 3) = 4(x + 5)
  2. Distribute:                                     7x - 21 = 4x + 20
  3. Subtract 4x on both sides:          3x - 21 = 20
  4. Add 21 on both sides:                  3x = 41
  5. Divide 3 on both sides:                x = 41/3

<u>Step 3: Check</u>

<em>Plug in x to verify it's a solution.</em>

  1. Substitute:                    7(1(41/3) - 3) = 4(41/3 + 5)
  2. Multiply:                        7(41/3 - 3) = 4(41/3 + 5)
  3. Subtract/Add:               7(32/3) = 4(56/3)
  4. Multiply:                        224/3 = 224/3

Here, we see that 224/3 is indeed equivalent to 224/3. ∴ x = 41/3 is a solution to the equation.

And we have our final answer!
