The lawyer Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre (1758-1794) became famous as a serious and "incorruptible" politician. Its objective was to eliminate the privileges and institutions of the Old Regime. He propagated revolutionary ideas for the time, such as universal suffrage, direct elections, free and compulsory education, and progressive income tax.
