What do you understand by the following terms a] osmosis b]diffusion c] active transport

Biology
1 answer:

Osmosis : a diffusion of a solvent (most of the time water molecules) through a membrane that is semipermeable in a area that is low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration

Diffusion : A net passive motion of particles (atoms, ions, or molecules) from a section which they are higher in concentration compared to areas in lower concentration. It goes on until the concentration is all the same.

Active Transport : The motion of ions or molecules along a cell membrane in the direction opposite of the diffusion or from an area of lower concentration to one of higher concentration. Active transport needs the assistance of a certain protein known as a carrier protein which uses energy supplied by ATP.

Which has more entropy: popcorn kernels or the resulting popcorn?
Airida [17]
The resulting popcorn, because there is an increase in the entropy. The requirement for a heat input is the give-away. Also note that corn kernels are not identical, but are instead related to one another in structured ways, and that the differences between popped kernels are not ordered or highly structured.

Haploid sperm and egg are produced via meiosis. What process is responsible for producing the 2N zygote?
kirza4 [7]

The answer is fertilization.

Fertilization is the process in which two haploid gametes fuse to create one diploid cell. In this process, male sperm fuses with female egg which creates a zygote. Since they are haploid (n), after fertilization, they will create the zygote which contains chromosomes from the sperm and chromosomes from the egg. The zygote, thus, has two sets of chromosomes, so it is diploid (2n).

If a particular strand of DNA is found to be 27% adenine, how much guanine would it contain
Naddika [18.5K]

Answer:

You have 20% of adenine. If you have 20% of adenine than you have 20% of thymine, because the amount of adenine and thymine is equal. 20% plus 20% is 40% of adennine and thymine. From 100% DNA bases subtract 40% and you will get 60%. Then divide this by 2 and you will get 30%. 30% of guanine and 30% of cytosine, because their amounts are equal in the DNA stand.
