James Monroe served between 1817 and 1825
After the reconstruction, a tax-supported school system was introduced. Also, the economy shifted from a few agriculture and industrial-based products to a wide variety. Finally, the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments gave hope to the colored people (in both the North and South) that racial equality would one day exist.
The American defeat of the superior British army lifted patriot morale, furthered the hope for independence, and helped to secure the foreign support needed to win the war
