Charles de Montesquieu, born 18 January 1689, a French judge, man of letters and one of the great political philosophers of the enlightenment. He is not only known for the huge impact he made on the political landscape across different countries through his theory of separation of powers but also through his stance on the equality of women to men.
In his Lettres Persanes published in 1721, he considered the possibility of women seeming naturally equal or inferior to their men counterpart and if women should be kept at a place all the time or be allowed to move freely and be in the company of who they want.
