When the muslims conquered the Spanish peninsule, they set as a a muslim territory the Al-Andalus, the Iberia peninsule was conquered by the Muslims and created the medieval muslim territory of Al-Andalus, it lasted for around 7 centuries, from the year 714 to 1492, eventhoug in 1492 they were too far to the south and their power over the whole peninsule didn´t last for long, they at one point controlled all of it, they were finally expelled from the peninsule in 1492 by the Catholic King.
