The Alps (Italian name: <em>Alpi)</em> are located in the north of Italy. The Alps are about 1,200 kilometres long. This is the highest mountain range system lying entirely in Europe. The Apennines (Italian name: <em>Appennini) </em>extend over 2/3 of the peninsula.
