A compound-complex sentence is a sentences that has two independent clauses joined to one or more dependent clauses. An example of a compound-complex exclamatory sentence about travel would be: While Jack likes the mountains, Peter loves the sea, but Amelie prefers to stay at home!
("Peter loves the sea" and "Amelie prefers to stay at home!" are independent clauses. On the other hand, "While Jack likes the mountains" is the dependent clause.)
