<em>The transitive verb “to tell” takes its direct object, “the story”, as the subject of the passive construction. </em><em>“The story” is told</em><em>. </em>

<em>This sentence does not mention who tells the story of the miner, because we use the passive voice when it is not so important ( or unknown ) who or what did the action. </em>
