Puppies and kittens generally receive the coccidian protozoa from their mothers.

Explanation:

Coccidia are parasites that dwell in the intestinal walls of the host’s body, like the dogs and cats. It causes coccidiasis which is an intestinal tract infection.  

Kittens and puppies can easily get infected with coccidia through transmission by direct or indirect contact with their infected mothers. They can also be infected when they contact feces of infected dog or cat and from contaminated soil or food.

Most of the symptoms related to improper digestion like vomiting, diarrhea can occur.
