Multiple Allele So far we have studied traits or genes that are coded for by just two alleles. Like in rabbits, there was one al

lele for brown hair color and one allele for white hair. However, some traits are coded for by more than two alleles. One of these is blood type in humans. This is a violation of Mendel’s Principle of unit characteristics. 5. In humans, there are four types of blood; type A, type B, type AB, and type O. The alleles A and B are codominant to each other and the O allele is recessive to both A and B alleles. So a person with the genotype AA or AO will have A type of blood. (5pts) a. What possible genotypes will produce B type of blood

Answer:

The correct answer is BB genotype and BO genotype.

Explanation:

The human blood system or ABO system shows codominance due to the multiple alleles. That means three different alleles for human blood type are present are IA, IB, and i. For easy understanding can be stated as A (for IA), B (for IB), and O (for i).

If someone has blood type B could have a genotype of either BB or BO because of the dominance of B allele on O where is If A allele present with B allele it would show co-dominance.

Thus, the correct answer is the BB genotype and BO genotype.

Define and give an example for the two different kinds of bonds: covalent and ionic
Juli2301 [7.4K]
Covalent bond (molecular bond): a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms.
1. Non-polar covalent bond: the electrons are shared equally between atoms
ex: CH₄ (methane)
2. Polar covalent bond: the electrons are not shared equality between atoms
ex: H₂O (water)

Ionic bond: a chemical bond formed between two ions with opposite charges
ex: NaCl (sodium chloride)

To know the difference between ionic and covalent bonding, one must first understand the chemical difference between sharing electrons and being attracted by charges to one another.

Every atom wants to fulfill the octet rule, or, getting to a stable 8 electrons in its outermost shell. (Having 8 valence electrons)

Atoms in covalent bonds do this by sharing electrons. A good analogy to express this would be if there was a toy that we both wanted, but there was only one of them. Instead of you or I having it to ourselves, we would share. This is what atoms in covalent bonds do.

Atoms in ionic bonds do this by transferring electrons. Sodium loses an electron and chlorine gains an electron (becoming chloride). This is like you taking the toy to yourself. Now because sodium is now a positive ion and chloride is a negative ion, the two come together because opposite charges attract.

I really hope this helps!

Best wishes!:)
