The best definition for empire is a political unit or area where previously independent states are under one ruler’s control. There were many empires established around the world.

EXPLANATION:

There are well-known empires you may want to study:

• Roman Empire

Roman Empire took place between 27 BC. and 476 A.D. It was considered to be one of the biggest and most powerful kingdoms in history. The Roman Empire ruled over three continents: Europe, Africa, and Asia. It governed about 21% of the world's population. The Roman Empire was very sophisticated for its time. Its architecture still stands today in the form of the Roman Coliseum and other famous buildings. Julius Caesar, Octavian, and Nero were famous Roman Emperors.

The Roman Empire split into two parts in 395 A.D., and while the Western Roman Empire fell in 476 A.D., the Eastern Roman Empire lasted another 1,000 years until it fell to the Ottomans in 1453. The Roman Empire was one of the strongest empires in the world. history. It was very advanced for its time.

• Holy Roman Empire

The Holy Roman Empire was a slack conglomeration of central European countries which lasted between 800-1806. Frankish King Charlemagne became the first Holy Roman Emperor. What is now the countries of Germany, France, Austria, and Poland are incorporated in the Holy Roman Empire. The groups of people in the Holy Roman Empire were very diverse, and it was surprising that this empire was able to last for so long given its fragmented nature.

• British Empire

The British Empire was the greatest kingdom in history, governing a quarter part of the world. The British Empire started to raise at the end of the 15th century and is usually considered to last until the end of the 20th century. At its top, the British Empire governed territories on seven continents. Eastern North America (before the American Revolution), Australia and India were well-known and important British colonies.

In the New World, British colonial agendas conflicted with the colonial agenda of Spain and France, leading to recurrent wars, such as the Seven Years War (Indian and French Wars) and Jenkin's Ear War.

What are some limits on the legislative branch?
Vinil7 [7]
      1. The constitution - the legislative branch cannot enact laws that violate the constitution. this limit is kinda limited in that the legislative branch could vote to change the constitution, but it would be extremely difficult and would also need ratification by 2/3 of the states.

2. the president- congress can pass laws, but they are not official laws until the president signs them. the president can refuse to sign a law the legislative branch has passed or veto them. with a super majoiity the legislative branch can override a veto though.

3. the people - the people vote for who is in the legislative branch. if we dont like what they do we can vote in new guys.

25 points, QUESTION:
natali 33 [55]

Padraic Colum's text shows us a different angle of Jason and the Argonauts myth. Almost as if in an attempt to complement the original mythical tale, he gives an extra 'life', an individualization to the characters that brings us closer to them. He brilliantly does so by narrating events that would have occurred between the 5th and 6th paragraphs of the original myth text, when Jason would return to his ship Argo to meet his comrades after he learns (and agrees) to the tasks proposed by King Aietes intended to prevent him from getting the golden fleece, and before he seeks Medea's help in accomplishing those tasks.

What constitutes a complex society and how do they compare with the neolithic communities that come before?
nalin [4]
Complex societies are characterized by a large population living in an area, with an agricultural surplus which supports a healthy and growing population.

This eventually gives away to a clear distinction between various classes based on their jobs and wealth they possess. Again, this further gives rise to a culture, tradition and laws of the society to be developed.

However, neolithic communities of the stone ages were more simple in nature with the largest communities not more than a couple of hundred people, mostly from within the same extended family.

Farming was not abundant and many of these communities were scavengers and nomads who would travel in different seasons for better farming land.

Due to this, a complete complex society was able to develop in one place.

In what ways did the Crusades affect Jerusalem?
marks)?
Mandarinka [93]

The Crusades were a type of religious war in which Christians attempted to conquer the Holy Land. This region had long been dominated by Muslims.

The most successful of these Crusades was the first one, which resulted in the conquest of Jerusalem. Jerusalem was conquered after a siege which lasted from June 7 to July 15, 1099. After the siege, the Crusaders took the city. This led to several changes in Jerusalem. First, the conquest led to a widespread killing of Jews and Muslims, as the Crusaders attempted to kill every single inhabitant of the city. It also led to the establishment of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, which became the center from which Crusaders managed their holdings in the Holy Land. Jerusalem remained in the hands of Christians until 1187, after the Battle of Hattin.
