In the 2000 presidential elections between Gore and Bush, the winner came down to who would win in Florida. However, there seem to be voting irregularities and Gore's team asked the Florida Supreme Court to order a recount.

Bush's team went to the United States Supreme Court which ruled in a landmark decision that Florida should immediately cease the recounting of the votes by hand. This allowed Bush to narrowly win Florida and the presidential election.
