It is true that the abolitionist movement wanted to ban slavery due to its heinous and horrible methods of punishing and treatment of the salves. However, they also wanted to ban slavery due to the cotton. The North was able to collect cotton easily while the south required slaves to do it. There are also hidden agendas for reasons of abolishing slavery but there is no clear facts to state them true so for now they are considered myths.
