The Reign of Terror was a time period during the French Revolution where Robespierre, the the leader of French revolutionaries, set anyone accused of speaking out against the revolution or having sympathies to the throne to death by guillotine.
This included the Law of Suspects, which held that suspects had to prove their innocence to avoid conviction.
