Number concord, in the standard English, is most apparent between a singular or plural <em>subject</em> and the <em>verb in the third person of the simple present tense</em>:. Singular: That house is beautiful. He likes to ride his bicycle. Plural: Those houses <em>are</em> beautiful. They <em>like</em> to ride their bicycles. The grains of sand (plural subject) agreeing with slip (plural verb).
