Answer:

Most of the fighting during the American Civil War took place on Southern soil. In part, this was the result of the war strategies of both sides. To win the war, the South had only to survive. On the other hand, for the North to win, the Union had to be restored. Thus, Union forces had to conquer the South in order to win the war. War action around their homes created many hardships for Southerners.

The hardships increased or intensified for other reasons as well. As an agricultural region, the South had more difficulty than the North in manufacturing needed goods--for both its soldiers and its civilians. One result was that Southern civilians probably had to make more real sacrifices during the war than Northern civilians did. In addition, part of Union war strategy was to use the Navy to blockade Southern ports. The Union hoped to stop the flow of goods between the South and other countries and strangle its foe economically.

To find additional sources in American Memory regarding the South during the Civil War, use words such as Yankee, Confederate, plantation, Civil War, and War Between the States, in your search.

How did the economic role of African Americans change between 1860 and 1880?
vovikov84 [41]

Answer:

Slavery was effectively abolished by the triumph of the North against the South in the Civil War (1861-1865). The 14th Amendment granted citizenship to all African Americans in 1868. Black slaves in the southern states ceased to be forced labor, but they turned into cheap labor for plantations; either they were usually paid very little or were victims of legals norms that sought to perpetrate their de facto state of slavery and their misery. In the North, the African American population provided labor for industries. Economic growth, a better political environment and new opportunities opened by industrial developement estimulated large black migration from Southern rural villages and towns to cities in the North in the second half of the 19th century. African American migraton contributed thus to fast urbanization and the growth of cities.

How did the Constitution of 1787 attempt to resolve the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation?
Julli [10]

Answer:

In order to solve the weaknesses, the constitution of 1787 provide additional power to the central government, such as the power to tax ,regulate commerce, and creates separation of power.

Explanation:

The articles of confederation was made on the assumption that the states will willingly cooperated with the federal government 's plan, But that's not the case when it is actually being implemented.

Without the power to Tax and control commerce, it is extremely difficult for our country to set up the proper budgeting plan for our national programs. In some ways, This make the states become more powerful than the federal government.

Because of this, constitution of 1787 was created to address those problem, granting the federal government to tax and regulate commerce. This make the federal government become more powerful than the states in term of influencing national economy.

But, this also come with a weakness. This make the federal government has the risk to become too powerful and turn into tyranny. This is why the constitution also address the separation of the government into several branches. Each branches will limit each other's influence and prevent the government from becoming too powerful.
