Ok so add the taxes (yes, you can do that)
6+8=12
find 12% of 27.50 and add taht to 27.50
faster way
100+12=112%
find 112% of 27.50 and that is answer

1.12 times 27.5=30.8

answer is cost is $30.80

Cost of the article = $27.50

Amount of city sales tax = (27.50 x 6%) = $1.65

Amount of excise tax = (27.50 x 8%) = $2.20

From my knowledge, we pay city sales tax and federal excise tax when we buy something, so the total cost would be $31.35

<A and <J are complementary angles. Find the value of x m<A = 5x + 30 m<J = 4x +15
uranmaximum [27]

Sum of complementary angles always equal to 90°.

Given, <A and <J are complementary angles. So, we can set up an equation as following:

m<A+ M<J= 90

Next step is to plug in m<A = 5x + 30 and m<J = 4x +15 in the above equation. So we will get,

5x+30+4x+15=90

(5x+4x)+(30+15)=90 Group the like terms.

9x+45=90 Combine the like terms.

9x+45-45=90-45 Subtract 45 from each sides.

9x=45 By simplifying.

\frac{9x}{9}=\frac{45}{9} Divide each sides by 9.

x=5.

So, x=5.

If the square of twice a number is 81, what is the number? I tried doing 2x^2=81 but that did not come out to the answer 4.5,-4.
Vlada [557]
If the number is n then

square of 2 times a number
square of 2n
(2n)²
that was your mistake, because (2n)²=4n², not 2n²

the result is 81
(2n)²=81
square root both sides
remember positive and negative roots
2n=+/-9
divide by 2
n=+/-4.5

n=4.5 or -4.5
