Suppose that during the past year, the price of a laptop computer fell from $2,950 to $2,450. During the same time period, consu

mer sales increased from 430,000 to 619,000 laptops.
Calculate the elasticity of demand between these two price-quantity combinations by using the following steps. After each step, complete the relevant part of the table with the appropriate answers. (Note: For decreases in price or quantity, enter values in the Change column with a minus sign.)

Original New Average Change Percentage Change
Quantity ? ? ? ? a. 36.03%,
b. 18.02%,
c. 277.51%

Price($) ? ? ? ? a. -18.52%,
b. -540%,
c. -9.26%

Step 1: Fill in the appropriate values for original quantity, new quantity, original price, and new price.
Step 2: Calculate the average quantity by adding the original quantity and the new quantity, and then dividing by two. Do the same for the average price.
Step 3: Calculate the change in quantity by subtracting the original quantity from the new quantity. Do the same for the change in price.
Step 4: Calculate the percentage change in quantity demanded by dividing the change in quantity by the average quantity. Do the same to calculate the percentage change in price.
Step 5: Calculate the price elasticity of demand by dividing the percentage change in quantity demanded by the percentage change in price, ignoring the negative sign.

Answer:

Option (a) is correct

Option (a) is correct

Price elasticity of demand = 1.95

Explanation:

Step 1:

Original quantity = 430,000

New quantity = 619,000

Original price = $2,950

New price = $2,450

Step 2:

Average quantity = (Original quantity + New quantity) ÷ 2

                             = (430,000 + 619,000) ÷ 2

                             = 524,500

Average price = (Original price + New price) ÷ 2

                        = ($2,950 + $2,450) ÷ 2

                        = $2,700

Step 3:

change in quantity = New quantity - Original quantity

                               = 619,000 - 430,000

                               = 189,000

change in price = New price - Original price

                          = $2,450 - $2,950

                          = -$500

Step 4:

Percentage change in quantity demanded:

= (change in quantity ÷ Average quantity) × 100

= (189,000 ÷ 524,500) × 100

= 36.03%

Percentage change in price:

= (change in price ÷ Average price) × 100

= (-$500 ÷ $2,700) × 100

= -18.52%

Step 5:

price elasticity of demand:

= percentage change in quantity demanded ÷ percentage change in price

= 36.03% ÷ 18.52%

= 1.95

Mijo made $2,200 profit. The initial investment had nothing to do with him therefore it is not considered his loss because the initial investment did not belong to him. Once he inherited the stock at $12,000 his personal profit/loss began to occur. Also the character of the profit would be not a fixed remuneration becauae of the flux of the markets, fees, etc.

Ajax Company presently leases a copy machine on a monthly basis. The lease agreement requires a fixed fee each month in addition
DedPeter [7]

Answer:

Variable cost per copy =$ 0.03

Explanation:

The high and low techniques helps to analyse a cost into its variable and fixed cost component.

The  formula is given below:\

Variable cost per copy = (cost at high act. - cost at low act)/(high act - low act)

Fixed cost = cost at high activity - (Vc/copy × high act)

VC per copy = ( 195 - 162)/(3500-2400) copies

                  =$ 0.03  per copy

Total fixed cost = 195 - (0.03× 3500)

                          = 195 - 105

                          =$90

A senator wants to raise tax revenue and make workers better off. A staff memberproposes raising the payroll tax paid by firms a
algol [13]

Answer:

This proposal will not work.

Explanation:

All taxes work the same way, it doesn't matter if they are payroll taxes or taxes on goods or services. In this case, labor is the service provided by the employees (suppliers) and the employer is the consumer. A tax increase will reduce the demand for labor, and therefore the equilibrium price of labor (wage) will also decrease. If wages decreases, then workers are not going to be better off, on the contrary they will be worse off. This tax increase will lower both the wage and the employment level.
