xcerpt from The Story of Miss Moppet Beatrix Potter This is a Cat called Miss Moppet; she thinks she has heard a mouse! This is

the Mouse peeping out behind the cupboard and making fun of Miss Moppet. He is not afraid of a kitten. This is Miss Moppet jumping just too late; she misses the Mouse and hits her own head. She thinks it is a very hard cupboard! The Mouse watches Miss Moppet from the top of the cupboard. Miss Moppet ties up her head in a duster and sits before the fire. The Mouse thinks she is looking very ill. He comes sliding down the bellpull. Miss Moppet looks worse and worse. The Mouse comes a little nearer. Miss Moppet holds her poor head in her paws and looks at him through a hole in the duster. The Mouse comes VERY close. And then all of a sudden—Miss Moppet jumps upon the Mouse! And because the Mouse has teased Miss Moppet—Miss Moppet thinks she will tease the Mouse, which is not at all nice of Miss Moppet. She ties him up in the duster and tosses it about like a ball. But she forgot about that hole in the duster; and when she untied it— there was no Mouse! He has wriggled out and run away; and he is dancing a jig on top of the cupboard! How does one character's mistake wind up assisting the other character to escape danger? A) Miss Moppet hits her head, causing the mouse to escape. B) The mouse slides down the bellpull, while the cat pretends not to notice. C) Miss Moppet forgets about the hole in the duster, enabling the mouse to escape. D) The mouse forgets that Miss Moppet is ill, resulting in the cat catching the mouse.

The answer is:

C) Miss Moppet forgets about the hole in the duster, enabling the mouse to escape.

In the excerpt from "The Story of Miss Moppet," by Beatrix Potter, the cat Miss  Moppet makes a mistake when she forgets about the hole in the duster. As a consequence, her omission allows the mouse to break away from a troublesome situation. Thus, he ends up dancing on top of the cupboard.

Answer:

C) Miss Moppet forgets about the hole in the duster, enabling the mouse to escape.

Explanation:

In this excerpt, we see the description of a confrontation between a mouse and a cat. The cat is chasing the mouse, but she is struggling to catch him. When the cat finally catches the mouse, she decides to put him in the duster. However, she forgets that the duster has a hole which enables the mouse to escape. In this way, the cat's mistake ended up assisting the other character to escape danger.

What does this mean “Late land of slavery”
Studentka2010 [4]

Answer:

The late land of slavery is a poem.It talks about what slavery was like and the poem - goes like My country tis of thee,

Late land of slavery,

        Of thee I sing.

Land where my father’s pride

Slept where my mother died,

From every mountain side

        Let freedom ring!

My native country thee

Land of the slave set free,

        Thy fame I love.

I love thy rocks and rills

And o’er thy hate which chills,

My heart with purpose thrills,

        To rise above.

Let laments swell the breeze

And wring from all the trees

         Sweet freedom’s song.

Let laggard tongues awake,

Let all who hear partake,

Let Southern silence quake,

        The sound prolong.

Our fathers’ God to thee

Author of Liberty,

        To thee we sing

Soon may our land be bright,

With Freedom’s happy light

Protect us by Thy might,

        Great God our King.
