Explanation: 1. Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system which means its gravity is too weak to hold down a normal atmosphere.

2. Venus is very hot because it is surrounded by a very thick atmosphere .  As sunlight passes through the atmosphere, it heats up the surface of Venus which results in the heats being trapped and building up extremely high temperature. Whereas, Mercury has no atmosphere at all.
