His travels are recorded in the Book of the Marvels of the World that depicts the wealth and size of China, and other Asian cities and countries. Though he was not the first European to reach China Marco Polo did leave the first detailed chronicle of his experience. This book inspired Christopher Columbus and many other travellers that will come later.
