Answer:

The Ball Poem” is a very subtle and beautiful poem about a little boy’s growing up. The poet sees this little boy one day when he has just lost his ball. The loss of his ball is teaching him that in life, we often lose things and they cannot be easily replaced. Such lessons are a part of growing up, and everyone has to learn them at some point in time or the other. However, it is painful for the poet to watch the boy in his sad state. He is sure that the ball, as well as the person who whistles by the boy, feels the same way as he does.

The excerpt is from the story of the heart of a samurai.

We are given different statements from the given story as an excerpt. Now, let us analyze the given statements;

1) The way he talks about the bird and how it shook his friend clearly indicates suspense as to what happened next.

2) The way he said Goemon closed his eyes again if it was a bird makes one wonder what could have happened if the bird had landed nearby. Thus, this is suspense.

3) Lastly, we are told that s the boat drifted toward it, the dark line grew into a tall, looming shape: an island. This is symptomatic of a Suspense story.

strojnjashka [21]

Answer:

C. A clause has a subject and verb, but a phrase does not.

Explanation:

Phrases and clauses are the two important parts of the sentences. A clause is the part of the sentence which includes a subject and a verb. On the other hand, a phrase is the part of the sentence which does not include a subject and a verb. The meaning of the clause is complete while the phrase does not stand alone or give complete meaning. A phrase complements the structure of the sentence. Both the clause and the phrase exists in the same line.
