What military strategy did Allies use in the pacific

The allies used the strategy of island hopping in the Pacific.

They would take over an island and setup a military base. Then the base would be used as a launching place to attack and take over small islands that weren't defended well. It was also known as leapfrogging because they would go from island to island taking them over.
