When x varies inversely with y then you'll have
xα1/y
x=k/y where k is the proportionality constant
when x=8. y=10. k=?
8=k/10
make k the subject of the formula
k=10×8
k=80.

When x=6. y=?.k=80
6=80/y
Make y the subject of the formula
y=80/6
y=40/3

A charity sent out 700 fundraising letters and received 210 contributions in response. What was the percent of response?
Pavlova-9 [17]
To find the answer, you have to make a proportion. 210 out of 700, or 210/700 is equal to x/100. So, 210/700=x/100. Then to solve the proportion, you must cross multiply. 210 times 100 is 21,000. Then, you must divide 21,000 by 700, which is 30. The 30 represents 30/100, which is 30%
The answer is 30%.

How do I explain and show the work for a math word problem of If the baby was 8 lbs. 9 oz. and doubled her weight the first six
harkovskaia [24]

Answer:

5 lb 11⅓ oz

Step-by-step explanation:

First, convert the weight at birth from pound and ounces to just ounces.

8 lb × 16 oz/lb + 9 oz = 137 oz

The baby doubles its weight in the first six months.  That means its weight increases by 137 oz over 6 months.  To find how much weight was gained in 4 months, write a proportion.

137 / 6 = x / 4

6x = 548

x = 91 ⅓

The baby gained 91 ⅓ oz in 4 months, or 5 lb 11⅓ oz.
