I've taught math and some physics for a total of more than 43 years, but have never seen the phrase "distance force" before.

I guess there could be a meaningful answer anyway.  Suppose you have a magnet and a steel nail.  The magnetic force exerted by the magnet could cause the nail to move, even without touching the nail.

The areas of two similar triangles are 18 cm^2 and 8 cm^2. One of the sides of the first triangle is 4.5 cm. What is the length
Nataly_w [17]

Answer:

  3 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

The ratio of areas of similar figures is the square of the ratio of linear dimensions. That means the ratio of linear dimensions is the square root of the area ratio. The ratio of the smaller triangle dimensions to the larger is then ...

  k = √((8 cm^2)/(18 cm^2)) = √(4/9) = 2/3

Then the corresponding side of the smaller triangle is ...

... k · (4.5 cm) = (2/3)·(4.5 cm) = 3 cm

Find the value of x. If necessary, round to the nearest tenth.
Ghella [55]

Answer:

x = 10.3 in

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the value of a, use the area formula for a triangle. The formula is A = 1/2 *b*h. Here b = x and h= x. The formula becomes A = 1/2 *x². Substitute A = 53 and solve for x by using inverse operations.

A = 1/2x²

53 = 1/2x²

106 = x²

√106 = x

10.3 = x
