    It is called forum the administrative center of the Roman cities, big or small, that had in its extension the main public administrative, religious, commercial and social buildings. In the planned Roman city, the main thoroughfares, called cardus maximus and decumanus maximus, intersected in the forums, usually. Since Rome was not a planned city and founded at a single moment, it does not have the cardus maximus and decumanus maximus in its main forum.

    The Roman Forum, the heart of the republic and empire, was formed by the union of other forums that were added by successive emperors. The main forums in Rome were the Roman Republican Forum, the Julius Forum, the Augustus Forum, the Nerva Forum, and the Trajan Forum. They received triumphal parades and were the scene of religious festivals, prophecies and political and judicial speeches. Historically, it was the meeting place of the comitia curiata, a group composed of the adult men of Rome, who met and formed an assembly where the different republican electoral divisions voted. Behind is the Senate and the Curia.
