The macroscale winds are the largest of the patterns in wind. It includes westerlies as well as trade winds, hurricanes and tropical storms. It can remain at a time for several weeks. A synoptic scale is an example of a smaller macro scale circulation and that includes the mid latitude cyclones and the anticyclones.
