NEOCLASSICISM is also known as the age of reason since everything had to be explained by means of reason. Neoclassical artists held ideas such as the child was born savage and had to be educated. For them, order and harmony were essential since they worked for social order. A good example of this movement in literature is “Essay on Man” by Alexander Pope. This literary work can be considered a philosophical poem since it transmits messages such as “do not concentrate on God, concentrate on you”, “the answers are inside of you”, “successful man is in the middle, avoid extremes”, etc.

ROMANTICISM emerged as a reaction against Neoclassicism. Romantic artists held the idea that the child was born innocent and wise. They went for imagination and emotions, as well as for the freedom of speech. One of the main exponents of Romanticism was William Wordsworth whose work “Preface” to the Lyrical Ballads is considered “a romantic manifesto” since in it he defined the poetry and the poet.

As regards poetry, he said that it should try common day life and should use everyday language. He wanted to do away with poetic language such as personification, metaphors, metonymy, etc. He defined poetry as the “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings”.

As regards the poet, Wordsworth claimed that the poet was “a man talking to himself” and “a translator of emotions”, since he had to be able to put emotions into words”.

For what purpose does the author mention in names of various Grimm works in the excerpt select
GaryK [48]

Hello. The question above is incomplete. The full question is:

Read the excerpt from "How the Grimm Brothers Saved the Fairy Tale."

Though it is impossible to clarify why certain tales were deleted or placed in footnotes in later editions, we do know that "Death and the Goose Boy" was omitted because of its close resemblance to "Godfather Death"; "The Stepmother,” because of its fragmentary nature and cruelty; and "The Faithful Animals,” because it came from the Siddhi-Kür, a collection of Mongolian tales.

From the first edition in 1812/1815 to the final one in 1857, the Grimms received numerous versions of tales already in their collection and new tales from strangers, friends, and colleagues, and they often decided to replace one tale with another version, to delete some of the tales, or to include variants in their footnotes.

For what purpose does the author mentioned the names of various Grimm works in this excerpt? Select three answers.

The author mentions the Grimm's tales to identify some that were omitted or placed in footnotes.

The author mentions which of the Grimm's tales are not suitable for children.

The author identifies the new tales the Grimms received from their colleagues, friends, and strangers.

Answer:

All options are correct.

Explanation:

The article exposes how fairy tales emerged and how they have evolved over the years. Two of the great authors of fairy tales were the brothers Grimm and the author of the article makes several quotations about their works showing the names of many. The author's purpose in citing the names of these works is to show that many of these works have been omitted and placed in footnotes in the most different books on fairy tales, in addition, the citation of these names serves to reveal deaths that were common in these stories. The author also cites these works to show explanations of the content of the stories to serve as a reason for the omission.
