Due to pollution the ozone layer of the Earth is being more and more affected. The main function of ozone is to absorb the Sun's UV radiation. Exposure to UV radiation is known to increase the risk of skin cancers.

Thus, young adults could get higher levels of UV radiation from the sun  compared with their grandparents, due to pollution.

Increased sun exposure may also be another cause. Today, it is more and more popular to spend a lot of time at the beach. Traveling to other countries to do this is more accessible today for young adults.

However, tanning beds which are very popular with young people, are another source of high levels of UV radiation.
