While both played with Expressionism, Joan Miro was known for Surrealism and would have a greater impact with that than any other genre of painting, especially because of how many other Expressionist painters there were at the time.
The poet André Breton, the chief spokesman of Surrealism, stated that Miró was “the most Surrealist of us all.”
