The spatial, physiological and neural conditions we were in when we first processed certain information are determining in how we encode that information - that is, in the formation of a memory. State-dependent memory refers to an increase in recall when the individual's physiological state is similar to the physiological state during learning. Encoding specificity principle was originally proposed by Tulving, it states that only those contents that were linked to a certain material at the time of learning will serve as effective recovery keys later. That is, it is the links and relationships created during the learning moment that will later allow us to access to the information learned.
