Nations form alliances because they have a similar opinion/goal. Or if a nation is being attacked and needs help from another nation who has the same problems or want to gain power or other benefits from an alliance

Like for example the alliances that occurred during WWI and WWII


United Nations
America (later on)
England
France
China
Russia

Alliance
Germany (famous for Adolf Hitler)
Japan
Italy
