The UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION and The UNITED STATES DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE are the two documents that were constructed in Philadelphia. These documents also denotes the spirit of the city.
There is a building in Philadelphia named the Independence Hall. It is where the debates and adoption of the two documents happened. This building is now part of a heritage site in Philadelphia.
They were advocating gender equality. They believed that women should have equal rights as men and they wanted for women to have the right to vote and to own property and not be treated as if they belonged to their husbands. This was based on the fact that African-Americans won their fight for their rights so women should too.

Washington was selected over other candidates such as John Hancock based on his previous military experience and the hope that a leader from Virginia could help unite the colonies.
