After the 9/11 terrorist attacks many americans treated muslims quite differently, even though they stated they were not prejudiced. these negative feelings were a part of their unconscious; that is, all mental content that is not in the conscious, there we can find experiences and repressed memories of the individuals, and we also have a collective unconscious, in which common experiences of humanity are found, and can be transmitted hereditarily.
The answer is really self explanatory. Rationing food allowed them to get through out the war without having to worry about the amount of food supply they had.
