Match each line of poetry to its meter.
chubhunter [2.5K]

Answer:

Iambic tetrameter- excerpt 1: Of waters in a land of change (Louise Bogan, "A Tale")

excerpt 2: This coyness, lady, were no crime. (Andrew Marvell. "To His Coy Mistress")

Iambic trimeter- excerpt 3: In some melodious plot (John Keats, "Ode to a Nightingale")

excerpt 4: Of credit and renown (William Cowper. "The Diverting History of John Gilpin")

Explanation:

The meter of poetry is the rhythmic structure of a line in poetry. This means the beats in the line of poetry follow a certain pattern, which becomes the meter.

Iambic tetrameter consists of four iambic feet in a line, with eight syllables. On the other hand, iambic trimeter is when the line has three units, meaning six syllables.

Thus, the given lines of poetry with their respective meter patterns are as follows-

Iambic tetrameter-

excerpt 1: Of waters in a land of change (Louise Bogan, "A Tale").

excerpt 2: This coyness, lady, were no crime. (Andrew Marvell. "To His Coy Mistress").

Iambic trimeter-

excerpt 3: In some melodious plot (John Keats, "Ode to a Nightingale").

excerpt 4: Of credit and renown (William Cowper. "The Diverting History of John Gilpin").

ASAP In "Exhalation," what is the "inscription hypothesis"?
Tems11 [23]

In "Exhalation", “the belief that memory is recorded as writing in the brain” is the "inscription hypothesis"

Answer: Option D

Explanation:

The author, Ted Chiang, feels suspicious about the slow functioning of the human’s brain and decides to find out why. He dissects the brain and finds out that the brains are not malfunctioning but are actually working faster. He wondered and questioned about the fineness of brain.

For decades, the theory of memory dominated that all human experiences are engraved on the golden leaf; it was these blades that were torn apart by the force of the explosion and were the cause of small flakes found after the disaster.

Anatomists collect pieces of golden leaf - so thin that light falls out of the greenery - and have been trying for years to reconstruct the original leaves in the hope of deciphering characters recording the last experiences of the deceased.

He later comes up with a hypothesis called the inscription hypothesis, stating that human memory is recorded as writing in the brain. Exhalation by Ted Chiang is a short story which is filled with science, thus making it a science based short story.

kiruha [24]

Shifting the focus to how the author needs his mother's support at the end of the argument might be considered an example of false causation fallacy.

Explanation:

In case of false causation the causes of the fallacies are incorrectly identified. In this case although one event is related to another event and the events take place at the same time . Although if the events are talking place at the same time but the events are not connected to each other. In case of false fallacy real relationship do not exist between the variables . One of the example of false causation is that whenever I go to the the bed at night for sleep , sun also goes down as well.
