What are two numbers that add together to make -7 and that multiply to make 6

Mathematics

Virty [35]3 years ago
7 0

Answer:

These two numbers are <em>-1 and -6 </em>respectively.

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose first number is x and the second number is y.

Then according to question-

( x + y ) = -7 ..............................(i)

x × y  =  6 ................................(ii)

As we know that-

<em>(x - y)^{2} =  (x + y )^{2}  - 4 x y .......................(iii)</em>

Now, Putting values of equation (i), (ii)  in equation (iii)-

We get,

( x - y )^{2} =  ( - 7 )^{2}  - 4 × 6

( x - y )^{2} = 49 - 24

( x - y )^{2}  = 25

( x - y ) = \sqrt{25}

( x - y ) = 5<em>..........................(iv)</em>

After adding equation (i) and (iv)-

( x + y ) = -7

<u>( x - y ) =  5</u>

<u> 2 x = -2</u>

x = -2 /2

<em>x = -1 </em>

Now put x = -1 in equation (i)-

We get,

y = -7 - x

y = -7 - (- 1)

y = - 7 + 1

y = -6

        <em>Hence the both numbers x and y are -1, -6 respectively.</em>

we are given equation of line

y=\frac{2}{3} x+1

Equation of perpendicular line:

Firstly , we will find slope of line

y=\frac{2}{3} x+1

we can compare it with

y=mx+b

we get

m=\frac{2}{3}

we know that

slope of perpendicular line will be -1/m

so, slope is

\frac{-3}{2}

It passes through point (-4,5)

so, we can use point slope form of line

y-5=-\frac{3}{2}(x+4)

we get

y=-\frac{3}{2}x-1..........Answer

Equation of parallel line:

Firstly , we will find slope of line

y=\frac{2}{3} x+1

we can compare it with

y=mx+b

we get

m=\frac{2}{3}

we know that

slope of parallel line always equal

so, slope is

\frac{2}{3}

It passes through point (-4,-5)

so, we can use point slope form of line

y+5=\frac{2}{3}(x+4)

we get

y=\frac{2}{3}x-\frac{7}{3}............Answer

A car company claims that its new car, the GoFast2000, has a gas mileage of 35 miles per gallon ( mpg ). A consumer group suspec
I am Lyosha [343]

Answer:

<em>H₀</em>: <em>μ</em> = 35 mpg vs. <em>Hₐ</em>: <em>μ</em> < 35 mpg.

A <em>t</em>-test statistic should be used.

The company's claim is correct.

The true mean gas mileage of the new cars is 35 mpg.

Step-by-step explanation:

The consumer group can perform a test for single mean to determine whether the is less than 35 mpg or not.

The hypothesis can be defined as follows:

<em>H₀</em>: The true mean gas mileage of the new cars is 35 mpg, i.e. <em>μ</em> = 35 mpg.

<em>Hₐ</em>: The true mean gas mileage of the new cars is less than 35 mpg, i.e. <em>μ</em> < 35 mpg.

The information provided is:

<em>n</em> = 50

\bar x = 34.8 mpg

As there is no information abut the population standard deviation then we would have to compute the sample standard deviation to estimate the value of <em>σ</em>.

Since the sample standard deviation will be used, a <em>t</em> test statistic would have to be computed.

The test statistic is given by:

t=\frac{\bar x-\mu}{s/\sqrt{n}}

Assumptions for one sample <em>t</em>-test are:

  • Independent samples
  • The population is normally distributed
  • The sample size should be large enough to make the assumption of normality.

The significance level of the test is, <em>α</em> = 0.05.

The <em>p</em>-value of the test is 0.324.

The decision rule based on <em>p</em>-value is that the null hypothesis will be rejected if the <em>p</em>-value is less than the level of significance and vice-versa.

The <em>p</em>-value = 0.324 > <em>α</em> = 0.05.

As the <em>p</em>-value is more than the significance level the null hypothesis will not be rejected.

Thus, concluding that the company's claim is correct.

The true mean gas mileage of the new cars is 35 mpg.

Which of the following is the minimum value of the equation y = 3x^2 − 4x − 2?
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

-3 1/3

Step-by-step explanation:

The quadratic

... y = ax² +bx +c

has its extreme value at

... x = -b/(2a)

Since a = 3 is positive, we know the parabola opens upward and the extreme value is a minimum. (We also know that from the problem statement asking us to find the minimum value.) The value of x at the minimum is -(-4)/(2·3) = 2/3.

To find the minimum value, we need to evaluate the function for x=2/3.

The most straightforward way to do this is to substitue 2/3 for x.

... y = 3(2/3)² -4(2/3) -2 = 3(4/9) -8/3 -2

... y = (4 -8 -6)/3 = -10/3

... y = -3 1/3

_____

<em>Confirmation</em>

You can also use a graphing calculator to show you the minimum.
