Explanation:

The Mayflower Compact listed rules that the Colonists aboard the Mayflower compact would follow once they landed in North America. It was written and agreed to by the men on board the ship on its way to the New World.

This relates to John Locke's social contract theory where he argued that when people were in a place or condition where the Government could not protect them for people who wanted to harm them, they would form a contract amongst themselves to protect themselves and live in a certain way that benefits each other mutually.

The colonists aboard the Mayflower could not rely immediately on British protection and social order so they made a contract between themselves to protect themselves and keep anarchy at bay.
