Dred Scott v. Sanford was a landmark decision enacted by the US Supreme Court in 1857, in the antebellum years. It stated that, even tough Scott was on a free state, he could not sue for his freedom rights because he had been a former slave and therefore, he did not have access to the US citizenship or to the rights connected to it, such as bringing a sue to court.
