It was the Greeks, inspired by religion, who created the Olympic Games. By 2500 BC, the Greeks were already paying homage to the gods, especially Zeus, with competitions. However, it was only in 776 bc that the Olympic Games took place for the first time, in an organized way and with the participation of athletes from several city-states.
