The most famous spartan warrior/king is Leonidas I. He's famous for leading a small Greek army in the battle of Thermopylae in 480 BCE. Even though they lost against the Persian "army", they had made an example of the power and determination that Greeks had in their last stand. He nor his fellow comrades were cowards, instead the bravest of all the Spartans.
