Which of the following best describes the pattern of microbial death? Which of the following best describes the pattern of micro

bial death? The pattern varies depending on the species. Not all of the cells in a culture are killed. The cells in a population die at a constant rate. All the cells in a culture die at once. The pattern varies depending on the antimicrobial agent.

Answer:

The cells in a population die at a constant rate

Explanation:

Microbial death is the loss of the ability of microbes to reproduce and survive in an environment. When a given microbial population is given a treatment, the microbial cells die at a constant rate. Microbial death rate is not dependent on the specie and nor on the antimicrobial agent.

Therefore, the microbial cells in a population does not die at once but die at a constant logarithmic rate; the cells decreases exponentially as nutrients decreases and waste product increases.

For example, if 500,000 microbes are treated or in a nutrient depleted environment and 50,000 microbes is left after 1 minute, by the next minute under the same condition 5,000 microbial cells will be left and this pattern will continue, this explains exponential decrease

Which of the following is NOT a role of connective tissue?
Mashcka [7]

Answer:

D. ABSORPTION

Explanation:

Connective tissues are a type of tissue, made up of ground substance, fibers and cells.

Connecting tissues perform tissue support function using collagen, elastic, reticular fibers.

It is also involved in transport of substances using hemoglobin in blood for transport of nutrients and oxygen, insulating the body, storing of fuel.

Indicate whether each statement is true or false: 1. Compliance is the tendency for blood vessel volume to increase as blood pre
Evgesh-ka [11]

Answer:

1. False

2. False

3. True

Explanation:

1. Compliance is the capacity of a container to increase in size to allow it hold more content. Blood vessel, arteries and veins expand (increase in volume) to be able to accommodate a surge in blood flow, which is as a result of an increase in pressure of the blood from the heart pumping of the blood

Therefore, compliance in the tendency for blood vessel volume to increase as the blood pressure increases not decrease

The statement is false

2. A large compliance is indicative of being highly sensitive to changes in pressure

Compliance, C = ΔV/ΔP

From the above equation, a blood vessel with a large compliance, exhibit a large increase in volume when the increase in pressure is small

Therefore, the statement 'Blood vessels with a large compliance exhibit a small increase in volume when pressure increases a small amount; is false

3. The compliance of the vein ranges from 10 to 20 times (30 times in some literature) greater than arteries. A factor which can be affected by the vascular smooth muscle contraction or relaxation

Therefore, the statement, 'venous compliance is approximately 24 times larger than arterial compliance, so as venous pressure increases the volume of veins greatly increases' is true

which predator is typically found in central africa and slays its opponents through a rapid application of venomous strikes
swat32
The answer is a black mamba.

The black mamba is predator typically found in central Africa. Not only that its scales are black but also an interior of its mouth. It moves very quickly and at any sudden movement, it is ready to slay its opponents through a rapid application of venomous strikes. Its venom is highly toxic and it could kill a man for 10-15 hours after the bite if antivenom is not applied.

Cell Length of one side Area of one side of the cube (l × w) Surface area (area of one side × 6 sides) Volume (l × w × h) Surfac
s2008m [1.1K]

The complete question is as follows:

1. What does a surface area/volume ratio of 6:1 mean for the cell’s ability to get the materials it needs that move across its surface?

2. What does a surface area/volume ratio of 3:1 mean for a cell’s ability to get materials across its membrane, compared to the cell with a ratio of 6:1?

Answer:

1 . Surface area to volume ratio = 3 : 1

surface area= 3 cm³ or (l = 1 cm) (1 cm x 1 cm x 3) (W = 3)

volume= 1 cm³ (1cm x 1cm x 1cm)

2. Surface area to volume ratio = 6 : 1

surface area= 6 cm³ or (1 cm x 1 cm x 6 ) (w= 6)

volume= 1 cm³

Diffusion increases with the increase in surface area to volume ratio through the semi-permeable membrane of the cell membrane that allows substances to move into the cytoplasm
