In U.S, juveniles may be transferred to adult criminal court through the process called a waiver hearing. The judge of a juvenile court may transfer a juvenile to be tried as adult after examining the seriousness of the crime. Crimes such as murder and r ape are more liable to receive a waiver hearing.

In some cases, a juvenile may be automatically tried as an adult through  "automatic transfer" process if meets the two criteria; if the juvenile is of a certain age (usually sixteen) and if the crime involves serious harm.
