Competition was behind the industrial revolution as various companies competed for customers. Thanks to the Industrial Revolution, customers could more easily access goods. Things that had been considered more luxury items could now be had by anyone as more could be made faster, cheaper, easier, and business owners didn't have to employ as many workers. Businesses also had to compete for raw materials sometimes. Others competed for ideas and patents to create various things.
Hitler and the Nazi party established and maintained a totalitarian government by using mostly force, power and sending fear into those who dared oppose them. Most of the population agreed with them but those who didn't were arrested, shot, or put in camps.

The South's economy was left in shambles because of the war. Their farms were burned, towns destroyed and they also lost all their free labor once the war was over.
