Around four decades ago, a guest workers program was initiated between U.S. and Mexico. The program grew up through various bi-lateral series of agreements between the two nations.

From 1942 to 1964, there were around 4.4 million contracts were made through which Mexican labours were able to work in the U.S. The Program was the outcome of the labour shortages for agricultural jobs due the World War II. The Mexican labours who commuted to the U.S. were termed as Braceros.
