After loosing against John Quincy Adams the presidential election of 1824, Andrew Jackson decided not to give his support to the new elected President, as Henry Clay did, but decided to publicly proclaimed that the election has been probably corrupted and stated his undying enmity to the new regime, fighting and blocking Adam;s policies through Congress.

Jackson, and his supporters ended up founding a new political party, separated from what in that time was known as the Democratic-Republican Party, of which Adams was the leader. It was by doing so, that the modern-day Democratic Party was founded.
