The correct answers are:

  • The education system was decimated by school closures.
  • The government imprisoned thousands in reeducation camps.
  • The government destroyed many important cultural artifacts.

The Chinese Cultural Revolution was a long period of social and political change in China led by Mao Zedong, he used the masses to gain control over the Communist Party. Schools and Universities were closed and churches, shrines, libraries, shops and private homes were ransacked or destroyed. Teachers and intellectuals were publicly humiliated, beaten and murdered. Mao also sent millions of young people who lived in urban areas to the countryside for “re-education”.

Temples, relicts, schools, and books were destroyed during the revolution because for Mao they were a symbol of the bourgeoisie culture. They also called this “Destruction of Four Olds Campaign” they wanted to destroy completely the traditional Chinese Culture so they could create a new one.

Part B Now that yoy have selected a leader write a four paragraph essay 350 500 words explaining your choice. As you write your
Ronch [10]

Answer:

The chosen leader is called Mikhail Gorbachev.

Explanation:

Mikhail Gorbachev was the last leader of the USSR and of those largely responsible for the end of the cold war and the decline of the communist party. This essay seeks to summarize Gorbachev's political life and show his influence at the end of the conflict between communists and capitalists.

Mikhail Gorbachev led the Soviet Union and the Communist Party between the years 1985 - 1991. His government witnessed the most intense phase of the cold war, where the dispute between Communist and capitalist policies reached the highest levels.

At that time, communism was very weakened and some administration and management failures caused an economic crisis in the USSR, which was facing an industry that was highly outdated and unable to compete or even establish relations with other nations that could help the country economically. During this period, Gorbachev saw the expansion and economic success of the European Union and the USA. For this reason, he realized that the cold war was no longer beneficial to his nation and decided to start a process of ending the conflict, in addition to a process political reform in the USSR and an attempt to establish trade relations with other nations.

His first step was to meet with US President Ronald Reagan and ensure that the two nations would not use nuclear weapons against each other, or against any other country. His initiative to end fears of a possible nuclear war was well regarded worldwide, which guaranteed him the Nobel Peace Prize.

After that, he started a series of internal reforms, aimed at improving the economy and the vision of the USSR in the world, promoting more freedoms for citizens and modernizing the country. Among these reforms we can cite the authorization of amnesty for political prisoners, the termination of the Gulags, the end of a unique political system and the start of an electoral system where citizens would have the privilege of choosing their leaders, the end of the media press chase and the obtaining of art.

Although he established progressive policies that improved several factors within his country, Gorbachev attracted several enemies and critics who believed that he was disrespecting the concepts defended by the communist system, with this, Gorbachev became politically isolated, without being able to implement his economic policies, which generated a strong crisis within the country.

In 1991 he suffered a coup d'état and to avoid starting a civil war within the country, he gave up resigning his position as leader, thus ending his government.

The 1950 Supreme Court decision to ban “separate but equal” law schools in Texas
aliya0001 [1]

The case you describe is:  SWEATT v. PAINTER

Details:

The case of <em>Sweatt v. Painter (</em>1950), challenged the "separate but equal" doctrine regarding racial segregated schooling which had been asserted by an earlier case, <em>Plessy v. Ferguson</em> (1896).

Heman Marion Sweatt was a black man who was not allowed admission into  the School of Law of the University of Texas.  Theophilus Painter was the president of the University of Texas at the time.  So that's where the names in the lawsuit came from.

In the case, which made its way to the US Supreme Court, the ultimate decision was that forcing Mr. Sweatt to attend law school elsewhere or in a segregated program at the University of Texas failed to meet the "separate but equal" standard, because other options such as those would have  lesser facilities, and he would be excluded from interaction with future lawyers who were attending the state university's main law school, available only to white students.  The school experience would need to be truly equal in order for the "separate but equal" policy to be valid.

In 1954, another Supreme Court decision went even further. <em>Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka </em>extended civil liberties to all Americans in regard to access to all levels of education.  The <em>Plessy v. Ferguson </em>case had said that separate, segregated public facilities were acceptable as long as the facilities offered were equal in quality.  In <em>Brown v. Board of Education</em>, segregation was shown to create inequality, and the Supreme Court unanimously ruled segregation to be unconstitutional.  After the Brown v. Board of Education decision, there was a struggle to get states to implement the new policy of desegregated schools, but eventually they were compelled to do so.
