In any case someone says someone else doesn't have what it takes, it usually is meant in a negative way, sometimes not however. By saying this, you are claiming that another person does not have the full potential or capability to successfully accomplish a certain task. This is what he most likely meant to Percy, however in other cases it may be meant in a way to be neutral, though the speaker may not realize it's negative effect. This is not fair or just criticsm, because he does not know about Percy's experiences or weaknesses, or let alone his strong potential. He judges without thinking and doesn't realize the talent and importance he holds as a character.

In which sentence is the underlined clause a noun clause functioning as the subject of the sentence? Robert Campbell settled tra
vladimir2022 [97]

Answer:

A noun clause that is functioning as the subject of the sentence Option C: 'Whoever travels the Pelly River' follows in the footsteps of the explorer Robert Campbell.

Explanation:

A sentence can have independent clauses and dependent clauses. Dependent clause is the noun clause of the sentence which can act as subject, object or complement of verb in a sentence. Noun clause is the dependent part of the sentence which functions as a noun. It is usually introduced in a sentence by the conjunction that. It can also be introduced by other conjunctions like if, whether, whoever, who, where, when, what etc.

Option B and D noun clauses are acting as objects of the sentence. In Option D "Whoever travels the Pelly River" emphasizes the subject of the sentence. If we ask the question "Who follows in the footsteps", Answer is 'Whoever travels the Pelly River'. So, it is acting as the subject of the verb 'follows' in the sentence.

Which sentence below contains a spelling error?
Llana [10]

The sentence 'I recieved her letter of resignation' contains a spelling error.

Option D.

Explanation:

The correct spellings of 'recieved' are 'received'.

The word 'receive' means getting something from someone or something. For example: Allison received a medal for winning the drawing contest. In this sentence, Allison was given a medal by her school.

The word follows a very old and common English vocabulary rule called: I before E except after C. According to this rule, in certain words, alphabet 'i' shall be placed before alphabet 'e' as long as they are preceding the alphabet 'c'. For example: In F-R-I-E-N-D, I is placed before E as they are not [preceding the alphabet C; which in this word does not exist entirely.

But, if the letters 'i' and 'e' are to be placed right after alphabet 'c', then the 'e' shall precede 'i'. For example: In words such as 'R-E-C-E-I-V-E' and 'P-E-R-C-E-I-V-E', E precedes I as they both are placed right after 'c'.

To avoid this common mistake, it is advised to refer to a spell check.
